AN INN WITH A HEART.
LOCATED BY THE OCEAN,
IN MAZUNTE
COAST OF OAXACA
The Posada del Arquitecto awaits you in the beautiful and magical Mazunte Bay.
We are located on a small hill in the center of the beach, with spectacular views, right by the sea.
The ideal place to watch the sunrise every day, be on the beach in two steps, or simply relax in your cabin watching the waves or the sky.
our posada
The Posada has a privileged location, right on the seafront in the center of Mazunte Bay. You won't need shoes: you can step barefoot from your cabin and be on the beach in just a few steps.
Our story began in the 1990s, when Mazunte was a pristine, uninhabited beach. Guido built his home here, and soon friends began visiting, drawn by the magic of the place. Thus emerged the first cottages, designed with bioarchitecture principles and local materials, in an organic style that adapted to the contours of the hill. Over time, the Posada incorporated modern amenities without losing its Zen essence and the spirit of a large home for friends, by the sea.
All of our cabins and rooms are different and unique; no two are alike, so you can find the one that best suits your needs. There are options for every budget, all just a stone's throw from the beach, some with ocean views and others with green views: from the beautiful contemporary rooms with lots of wood and air-conditioning, to the charming rustic cabins with organic designs, to the simple, open-plan, and very affordable hostel cabins.
The café-restaurant "La Terraza del Arquitecto" is located within the Inn and offers delicious breakfasts and lunches at any time of day. It sits on a cool terrace overlooking the sea, offering a superb view, just a stone's throw from the beach.
The Posada is eco-sustainable: we offer filtered drinking water straight from the tap, complete water recycling for the gardens, solar panels for the air conditioning, and solar water heaters, as part of our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact.
The entire Posada is immersed in the natural environment, and coexists with the local vegetation and fauna, which we invite you to respect.
And we are Pet-Friendly!

the eco-sustainable inn
At the Inn, we care for the natural environment with a true commitment to sustainability. We have an advanced recycling system that reuses gray water to irrigate gardens, avoiding the waste of tap water. Our rooms offer comfort with air-conditioning powered by solar panels, minimizing environmental impact. You can enjoy drinking water in all rooms directly from the tap thanks to a safe filtration system, and (in some rooms) hot water from solar heaters.
our history
The history of the Posda del Arquitecto goes hand in hand with the history of Mazunte. In the late 1980s, Guido, who was already familiar with this part of the Oaxacan coast, found this incredible place, Mazunte, which at the time was practically uninhabited. Guido fell in love with this deserted, wild beach and decided to build a little house to live in.
During those years, the famous Council of Visions was also held in Mazunte, a kind of cosmic congress of people who gathered to imagine and implement ways to preserve the planet's ecological balance. Inspired by cutting-edge knowledge of sustainable technologies and the ancestral wisdom of indigenous peoples, these people from all over also fell in love with Mazunte.
Although the meeting lasted only a few days, the event left a profound imprint on Mazunte's destiny. From that moment on, the name Mazunte began to circulate like a word-of-mouth secret, a place with a special energy that had to be discovered.
Soon, many friends from all over the world arrived at Guido's house, wanting to visit this magical place, instilling a need to create living spaces for them. Guido and his friends began to "grow" some palapas and beautiful rustic houses, built using the principles of bioarchitecture and the natural materials of the region.
These cabins, each unique and individual, had a very organic, sculpted design that adapted to the geography of the hill. Thus, spontaneously, a meeting space open to all was created, where thousands of stories were born.
The Posada del Arquitecto has evolved over the years, with the collaboration of old and new friends (and a few tropical weather events). Now, the Posada is much less spartan, and its cabins offer the solidity and comforts of contemporary accommodations, while maintaining the essential, minimalist, Zen-like design of its early days and the relaxed spirit of a large, open house.
Explore Mazunte and more
Mazunte is one of the most beloved beaches among travelers, with a bay of crystal-clear waters and mountain ranges that merge with the sea. Although it's no longer the uninhabited beach it once was, it remains a place of powerful and magical nature, and a relaxing atmosphere perfect for those looking to disconnect and reconnect with the rhythm of the planet.
Here you can admire unique sunrises and sunsets, and hike to Punta Cometa, a rocky peninsula that juts out into the sea, with spectacular views of the coast and the chance to spot whales.
Mazunte also offers a diverse cuisine with flavors from around the world. And if you're looking to explore, just 15 minutes walking from Mazunte you'll find other beaches and bays with stunning landscapes, such as Playa Mermejita, San Agustinillo, Aragón, and the Ventanilla Ecological Reserve with its beautiful mangroves.
